Unusually strong storms are forecast to move through the Piedmont Triad tomorrow (Monday, March 16) and are expected to bring with them significant winds, damaging hail and isolated tornadoes during the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. “ There is a strong probability of widespread damage, with wind gusts as high as 74 mph. Winds of 74 mph are classified as hurricane strength.

Duke Energy will conduct a scheduled power outage on Wednesday, March 4, affecting most campus buildings at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The university’s steam plant will also be taken offline for repairs beginning at noon on Tuesday, March 3, through Wednesday, March 4.

In light of more winter weather moving into the Piedmont Triad and its expected impact on the region, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will move to Condition 2: Suspended Operations beginning at 12 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 1. The university will provide notice if conditions require further changes in operational status.
