EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 6, 2026) — The Theatre Arts Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will present the award-winning play “Skeleton Crew,” written by Dominique Morisseau.
This production highlights the enduring relevance of community, resilience, sacrifice and the personal cost of systemic failure. Tyler Madden, instructor of theatre arts at North Carolina A&T, directs the show, bringing a fresh perspective to the powerful story.
“Skeleton Crew” is the final installment of Morisseau’s celebrated Detroit Project trilogy. Set in the winter of 2008, the play takes place in the break room of one of the last operating auto stamping plants in Detroit. As rumors of the plant’s closure begin to spread, four workers are forced to navigate the tension between loyalty, survival and self-preservation.
Faye, a factory veteran nearing 30 years on the line, faces an uncertain future. Shanita, a young woman expecting her first child, believes in the dignity of the work. Dez, a sharp and ambitious young man, is looking for a way out. And Reggie, the plant’s foreman, is caught between the management he answers to and the workers he considers family.
Through these four characters, Morisseau delivers a powerful and deeply human examination of what happens when the American Dream collides with economic collapse. The play’s themes resonate just as powerfully today as when the play first premiered.
These performances will take place at Paul Robeson Theatre on A&T’s campus. Admission is $17 for adults, $11 for senior citizens and non-A&T students, and $6 for children 12 and younger. Admission is $10 per person for group rate (group size minimum of 10 guests). A&T students receive free admission with their Aggie One Card.
