EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Jan. 6, 2025) — The University Choir at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has been nominated for the 2025 Best Choir Award at the third annual Goat NC Awards, presented by Families Against Senseless Killings (FASK). This award ceremony celebrates individuals and groups in the Greensboro community who are recognized as “The Greatest of All Time” and have excelled in their respective fields.

The ceremony will take place Saturday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Carolina Theatre in downtown Greensboro, 310 S. Greene St., as part of the third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Cease Fire Holiday Weekend.

The N.C. A&T University Choir, led by Maestro Travis Alexander, is the top choral group in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Celebrated for its diverse repertoire and remarkable performances, the choir has performed at venues like the White House and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and has been featured on programs such as Black Issues Forum on PBS North Carolina.

Their achievements include a $100,000 gift from the Tom Joyner Foundation in 2023 and awards from the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the Akron, Ohio NAACP, and the Columbus, Ohio City Council, which honored them with a Proclamation for Musical Excellence.

“I am elated that the University Choir’s excellence, discipline and versatility have earned this nomination,” said Alexander. “This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our talented students and the tremendous support from the university and the Greensboro community. It inspires us to continue striving for excellence in every note and every performance.”
