EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2024) – The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge has recognized North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement (OLCE) for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections.
On behalf of the university, OLCE led the charge to receive the following awards, reflecting its commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life:
- Best in Class Award for Highest Registration Rate at an historically Black college or university (tied)
- Bronze seal for 2022 campus voting rate from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) report from Tufts University
“N.C. A&T students understand and know the power of their voices. I am proud of their hard work and the dedication they have for ensuring their peers and campus community members are educated on the democratic process,” said Tiffany Seawright, director of Leadership and Engagement.
“We have been a bronze-level voting campus and the top HBCU for voter registration for the past two midterm election cycles, are currently a gold-level voting campus for presidential elections and have maintained the distinction of having a Highly Established Action Plan every election season since 2019. We’re looking to do even more this year.”
OLCE regularly enhances the university’s civic footprint through active political participation, encouraging students, faculty and staff in civic learning, political activism, and education through support, advocacy, education and empowerment that advances the campus’ engagement in the process of democracy. A full list of the group’s ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge participation and recognitions are available online.
The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. A&T was recognized alongside more than 500 campuses using data from the NSLVE report, which found that colleges and universities had the second-highest voter turnout among students in a midterm election since NSLVE began measuring this data. The full list of campus award winners can be viewed here.
“The ALL IN Awards were created to celebrate nonpartisan democratic engagement and the outstanding campus voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses, like North Carolina A&T who demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective.”
More than 1,060 institutions enrolling more than 10 million students participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement.
