EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 16, 2023) – Kamryn Jackson, a junior multimedia journalism student in North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, has been named to the seventh class of Rhoden Fellows.

The yearlong training program serves as an incubator for future journalists from historically Black colleges and universities in partnership with Andscape, a Black-led media platform, and William C. “Bill” Rhoden, award-winning former New York Times columnist and current ESPN sports columnist.

Jackson is N.C. A&T’s fifth fellow, following Alexis Black, Alexis Davis, East Dockery and Donovan Dooley’s participation in 2023, 2022, 2020 and 2018, respectively.

“It feels amazing to be named a Rhoden Fellow. When I got the call, I was filled with excitement,” said Jackson. “Being under the wing of one of the most prominent sports journalists is something I will never take for granted.”

The Prince George’s County, Maryland, native continuously strengthens her expertise in journalism as the managing editor and TheScore lead reporter for The A&T Register, the university’s student newspaper. Additionally, Jackson is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Associated Press Sports Editors student chapters.

“The journalism and mass communication department has been integral to my undergraduate experience,” said Jackson. “I’ve learned so much and made meaningful friendships just by being a Crosby Kid, and I couldn’t ask for a better department to be a part of.”

The Rhoden Fellowship encourages its fellows to continue strengthening their skills by creating a curriculum that includes pitching creative storytelling ideas, writing for onsite events and producing weekly podcasts published on Andscape’s digital hub.
