EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 7, 2021) – Breona M. Hayes has been named Title IX coordinator for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
In this role, Hayes is responsible for monitoring the overall implementation of Title IX for the university and coordinating its compliance with Title IX in all areas covered by the implementing regulations. Her duties include managing and establishing university Title IX compliance strategies and programmatic activities, engaging the campus community on Title IX prevention strategies, and developing and implementing Title IX and prevention training programs across the university.
“The university will be well served by Breona’s significant knowledge and experience in all areas related to Title IX compliance and sexual misconduct prevention,” said Melissa J. Holloway, J.D., A&T’s vice chancellor and general counsel for Legal Affairs, Risk and Compliance. “Her ability to build relationships will ensure the success of the Title IX office as a resource for faculty, staff and students.”
Hayes has a strong desire to create pathways to educational attainment through engagement and advocacy. She is a certified Title IX Administrator with additional certifications in Civil Rights investigations, Hearing Officer and Decision-Maker, and Campus Survivor and Victim Advocacy. She has given presentations nationally on the topics of Title IX compliance, sexual assault prevention and trauma-informed campuses.
Before joining A&T, Hayes served as CEO of The Hayes Solutions Group, which she founded in 2019 in Durham with a focus on providing tools, resources and support to clients while being culturally affirming and trauma-informed in Title IX and sexual assault prevention. Previously, she worked with eight historically Black colleges and universities and 10 community colleges as a campus specialist with the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault. She also spent four years with Saint Augustine’s University – including nearly three years as Title IX coordinator – and more than three years with Florida State University at Jacksonville as a Gateway to College partner program guidance/dual enrollment coordinator.
She has served in several leadership capacities in professional organizations, including BRIDGES Leadership for Women in Higher Education, and is a Higher Education Leadership Foundation Fellow-Zeta Cohort.
Hayes graduated from Florida A&M University with a B.S. in health science-physical therapy and obtained both her M.A. in mental health counseling and M.A. in school counseling from Webster University. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in urban higher education at Jackson State University.
N.C. A&T’s Title IX unit operates under the auspices of the Division of Legal Affairs, Risk and Compliance, which includes the Office of Legal Affairs, Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance and the Office of Internal Audit.
