EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 26, 2020) – After two years as interim vice provost of graduate research and dean of the Graduate College at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Clay S. Gloster Jr., Ph.D., has been selected to serve in the role permanently.
“Dr. Gloster’s many achievements along with his dedication to our students and faculty members over the years, prepared him well to lead our Graduate College,” said Beryl McEwen, Ph.D., provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “I look forward to working with him as we support impactful graduate research on our campus.”
As interim vice provost and dean, Gloster established the Preparing Future Minority Faculty Members program to enhance graduate student preparedness for academic careers, securing a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to support this effort. He most recently coordinated the establishment of four new graduate certificate programs slated to begin in the fall.
Gloster has held several roles at N.C. A&T since joining the Department of Computer Systems and Technology as professor and chair in 2010. Tapped as the associate dean of the College of Science and Technology in 2012, he led the strategic growth initiative resulting in the M.S. in Information Technology degree program becoming the largest master’s program on campus. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked the online program as one of the nation’s best since 2012.
His research focuses on reconfigurable computing and he has made substantial contributions to research in technology-based curriculum development and distance education.
Gloster earned his B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering at A&T, a M.Div. from Howard University and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from N.C. State University.
