N.C. A&T to Celebrate Founders Day; International Novelist to Keynote

Greensboro, N.C. (March 8, 2017) - North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University will hold its annual Founders Day program and convocation, from 10 a.m. – noon, Thursday, March 23, in Harrison Auditorium.  

Renowned novelist, poet and non-fiction writer Professor Lucinda Roy will deliver the keynote address. Roy is a distinguished professor in creative writing at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She also served as the university’s College of Arts and Sciences’ associate dean for curriculum, outreach, and diversity.

Roy has authored six books, including her new poetry collection, “Fabric,” the novel, “Lady Moses,” and a memoir-critique titled “No Right to Remain Silent: What We’ve Learned from the Tragedy at Virginia Tech.” Her extensive travel and experiences living and working on three continents gives credence to the challenges and cultural diversities her works explore.

Among the numerous awards she has received are the Eighth Mountain Poetry Prize, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s statewide Outstanding Faculty Award and a Discover Great New Writers Award from Barnes and Noble. Roy has been a guest on several television and radio programs and networks including, “The CBS Evening News,” “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS Sunday Morning” and National Public Radio.  

During the program, several alumni will be recognized on behalf of their respective colleges for their outstanding work and accomplishments.

Founders Day celebrates N.C. A&T’s 126-year history of exceptional academic achievement, learning, discovery, heritage and community engagement.  

Classes are suspended for this event but will resume normal hours following the ceremony.
