N.C. A&T Student Participates in Program Breaking Barriers on Wall Street

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Oct. 31, 2024) – A junior at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has completed his first year with a program dedicated to creating diversity in the financial services sector at the Milken Institute. 

Joshua Edwards, a native of Detroit who is studying supply chain management in the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics, is a member the second cohort of the Milken Institute’s HBCU (historically Black college and university) Strategic Initiative and Fellows Program. 

The Milken Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank focused on developing ideas and resources to enhance financial, physical, mental and environmental health, launched this Fellows program last year to “connect resources to talent and develop diversity, equity, and inclusion across the business community.” 

Fellows participate in an eight-week curriculum to learn more about the financial services sector, engage in professional development and secure summer internships at financial institutions. 

The fellowship is now a multi-year program. Edwards finished this first phase of the program, which consists of attending an introductory event in Washington, D.C., attending virtual sessions where he learned about the different facets of finance, and attending the Milken Conference in Los Angeles. 

“Being an N.C. A&T student in the Milken HBCU Fellowship, I use the knowledge I have learned in the classroom and the extracurriculars I am a part of to prosper in this prestigious fellowship. I am extremely honored to be representing A&T in this fellowship,” said Edwards. 

Edwards will complete this fellowship upon graduation in May 2026, after which he expects to receive an offer for a full-time role in the finance industry.
