A&T Names Martin Complex Spaces for the Rev. Dr. John L. and Elnita L. Williams

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (Oct. 14, 2024) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has named Lovelle McMichael, M.Div., M.Ed., director of community engagement for the Division of Strategic Partnerships and Economic Development.
In this role, McMichael will lead the university’s community engagement initiatives, focusing on strengthening public programs and community-building efforts. He will coordinate volunteerism among students, faculty, and staff, while fostering and expanding partnerships with community-based organizations to enhance the university’s accessibility and responsiveness to community needs.
Prior to joining North Carolina A&T, McMichael served as assistant director of the Center for Community Engagement at High Point University. There, he oversaw the student-led volunteer center, was the program director for the AmeriCorps VISTA cohort and collaborated with more than 14 community partners within the city of High Point, North Carolina. He previously managed Turning Point Youth Facility, a comprehensive residential program which integrated prevention and intervention services for young men in foster care.
McMichael is also the senior pastor of Greater New Hope Baptist Church in High Point and serves on the One High Point Commission, which seeks reparations for African American citizens of High Point.
In recognition of his contributions, McMichael was named to the Phoenix Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 class of 2014 and received the 2015 Thurgood Marshall Award of Merit. He has also been honored as a State of Black Arizona Community Luminary and as a recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Living the Dream Award for his efforts to make Phoenix a more compassionate and socially just city.
Additionally, McMichael is the author of “Transforming the Minds of Men: Maximizing Potential from Childhood to Manhood.”
McMichael earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Millersville University, a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix and a teaching certificate in African American Studies from the Arizona Department of Education. He also holds a master’s degree in divinity from Wake Forest University School of Divinity and completed the Chaplain Residency Program at Moses Cone Hospital in 2022. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in leadership studies at A&T.
