A&T Names Haynes Director of Counseling Services

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 17, 2024) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has named Jeffery Haynes, Ph.D., director of Counseling Services, effective July 1.

Jeffery HaynesHaynes brings 20 years of experience in a variety of academic and operational leadership positions, in both higher education and the private sector, to the position. He is a recognized expert in academic and student affairs program development.

Counseling Services is a comprehensive university counseling entity dedicated to assisting students at North Carolina A&T. Accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Counseling Services is a unit within the Division of Student Affairs under the supervision of the vice chancellor for Student Affairs, and collaborates closely with all student support services as well as with academic departments.

“Dr. Haynes brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership that will enhance the great services being provided to our students through Counseling Services,” said Melody Pierce, Ph.D., vice chancellor for Student Affairs. “Our Counseling Services unit offers a variety of services to help all currently enrolled A&T students address challenges and difficulties they may face. I am confident in Dr. Haynes’ ability to be innovative and forward thinking in meeting their needs.”

Before joining A&T, Haynes served as director of Health and Counseling Services at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University where he managed a budget of $2 million and managed 20 employees.

Haynes previously was an associate professor, dean, and graduate counseling program chair at Bethune Cookman University. Under his leadership there, he attained a 100% success rate of placing students in jobs and a 97% pass rate on students taking the national board exam for Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors. In addition, he helped develop campus-wide enrollment and retention strategies and supervised the student health and counseling center.

Additionally, Haynes served as CEO for Global Medical and Behavioral Health Corp. and was an assistant professor and associate professor at Troy University.

Haynes holds a B.A. in human development from Eckerd College, MBA from Troy University, and M.A. and Ph.D. from Saybrook University. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. He also is a member of the 2024 Community of Fellows in the HBCU (historically Black college or university) Executive Leadership Institute at Clark Atlanta University.

Counseling at A&T is provided to current students as a service stemming from their regular student fees. With the exception of select testing programs, no additional fees are assessed for services.

The office is located in Murphy Hall Suite 109 and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Togetherall, an online peer-to-peer platform managed by clinically trained professionals, also is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to students who register online at https://account.v2.togetherall.com/register/student.
