Associate Vice Provost Davis Named to Executive Leadership Institute’s Fifth Cohort

EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 27, 2024) – Regina Davis, Ph.D., North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University’s associate vice provost for Student Success, is among 33 University of North Carolina System representatives selected to participate in its fifth Executive Leadership Institute cohort.

The 10-month institute will provide an overall view of the UNC System, its operations and leadership development opportunities. It develops leadership skills by sharing best practices and forming partnerships among participants and their institutions. Members will benefit from executive coaching on an individual level and in a team setting.

Learning modules are designed to deepen expertise essential for success at the executive level. Five interactive and experiential immersion modules will be delivered via a hybrid of virtual and face-to-face instruction at North Carolina A&T, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and UNC Charlotte during the program. The team and individual executive coaching component will be provided in partnership with UNC Wilmington.

The institute, which was established in 2019, is designed to build the next generation of top leadership from within the UNC System. Among its 100 participants, 29 were later promoted to leadership positions within the system.

Davis was named associate vice provost for Student Success and university registrar in October 2022 after serving in the position on an interim basis. She and Tonya Smith-Jackson, provost and executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, created the University Student Success Office established last fall to support current and prospective students in their personal, academic and professional development.

Previously, Davis was A&T’s interim vice provost for Strategic Planning, Operations and Institutional Effectiveness. She also served as Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Liaison for the university while serving as assistant provost for student success and academic support and as director of the university’s Center for Academic Excellence.

In the latter role, Davis oversaw advising functions for new freshmen and transfer students as well as the Aggie Success Academy designed to strengthen vulnerable student populations prior to their first semester’s attendance. She also supervised the Partway Home and Aggies at the Goal Line programs that assist students in completing their degrees.

Davis joined A&T in Fall 2007 as a professor in the Department of English and Communication Studies in the speech program. She went on to become program director of Speech-Communication Studies, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology before achieving the rank of full professor.  She later served as chair for the Department of Liberal Studies.

Davis earned a B.A. in biological sciences from Hampton University, a master’s degree in communication and human relations from the University of Oklahoma, and doctorate in education leadership and cultural foundations from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. She also holds a post-baccalaureate certificate in women and gendered studies from UNCG.
