GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 24, 2020) – In an effort to forge a closer relationship with its more than 55,000 living alumni, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is creating more direct connections with its dozens of alumni chapters around the country.
A formal review of the N.C. A&T State University Alumni Association Inc., resulted in a unanimous recommendation to dissolve the associated entity. The association will be replaced by an Alumni Advisory Council with direct relationship to university’s leadership and a chair appointed by the A&T Board of Trustees chairperson. The changes take effect July 23, 2020.
“Our alumni have an exceptionally strong affinity for North Carolina A&T, much stronger than is typically seen in colleges and universities around the nation,” said N.C. A&T Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Ken Sigmon. “We believe the best way forward for a closer relationship with the Aggie Family is to have a more intimate relationship with our alumni chapters, which form the heart of A&T’s engagement with its more than 55,000 alumni.”
The Office of Alumni Relations will continue to oversee alumni operations. Sigmon said University Advancement plans to grow the staffing of that office in the future to better support activities of the chapters throughout the year and during key times of alumni involvement on campus, such as the university’s legendary annual Greatest Homecoming on Earth.
“We deeply appreciate the service of the Alumni Association leaders, both past and present. We look forward to this new relationship, which we believe will enable more programming, more opportunities to interact with one another and a deeper relationship with A&T,” said Sigmon.
N.C. A&T alumni include graduates around the world, including such luminaries as the Rev. Jesse Jackson, U.S. Rep. Alma Adams, actor/producer/television host Terrence J, NBA Hall of Famer Alvin Attles Sr. and incoming Simmons University President Lynn Perry Wooten.Media Contact Information: thsimmons@ncat.edu
