The lecture will emphasize the importance of incorporating student engagement activities in large classroom learning environments, as well as practical and proven techniques for achieving that goal. The interactive session utilizes research that supports active learning and outlines potential missteps when active learning is utilized and how to prevent them.
Felder is the coauthor of “Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes,” which has been widely used as the text for the introductory chemical engineering course for nearly four decades, “Teaching and Learning STEM: A Practical Guide” and more than 300 articles on chemical process engineering and STEM education.
He has presented over 600 teaching workshops and seminars on campuses throughout North America and in South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. He has also won numerous awards for teaching, research and publications and was prominently the first recipient of both the International Federation of Engineering Education Society’s Global Award for Excellence in Engineering Education and the American Society for Engineering Education Lifetime Achievement Award.
The lecture will be held in Barnes Hall, Room 100, on the university’s campus.
