College of Engineering

Undergraduate Programs

Mission and Goals

The mission of the department at North Carolina A&T State University is to prepare students for the broad practice of mechanical or aerospace and astronautical engineering and for graduate education in mechanical or aerospace and astronautical engineering and the many related fields such as materials engineering.

The bachelor's programs are designed to prepare students for successful careers mechanical or aerospace and astronautical engineering, respectively. Typically, the programs encompass a broad range of academic, professional, and personal development objectives. Here are the key goals of the mechanical engineering (MEEN) or aerospace and astronautical engineering (AAEN) programs:

  • ·The program will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of fundamental engineering principles, in addition to mathematics, physics, and core engineering concepts.
  • ·The faculty will ensure that students gain in-depth knowledge in mechanical, or aeronautical & astronautical engineering topics in their respective majors.
  • Upon graduation, the students will have developed an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems using analytical, computational, and experimental methods. In addition, the programs will equip students with the skills to design and innovate mechanical or aeronautical & astronautical engineering systems and components, considering safety, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.

Degrees Offered

· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

· Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering

Program Requirements

Both Mechanical and Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering majors must complete 120 credit hours by following the approved departmental curriculum. Majors must also satisfy all University and College of Engineering requirements.

Accreditation

The undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, leading to the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) degree, is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC-ABET).

Career Opportunities

Graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes required for immediate success in industry, government, private practice, or graduate education. Many of our alumni pursue careers as design, test, development, production, or research engineers, as well as roles in technical marketing and engineering management. The programs provide robust internship and co-op opportunities through strong collaborations with leading organizations such as Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, the Department of Defense (DoD), and NASA, among others. Career opportunities in Mechanical and Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering are among the most diverse and far-reaching across all engineering fields. In addition to being well-prepared for the workforce, graduates are strong candidates for admission to MS and Ph.D. programs in Mechanical or Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering at top universities worldwide.
