N.C. A&T Commencement Clear Bag Regulation

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is committed to ensuring all guests have a safe and enjoyable commencement experience. Accordingly, the university has instituted a clear bag regulation for all commencement ceremonies. Similar to regulations already adopted at many professional and college stadiums, arenas and other venues nationwide, the regulation will enhance existing safety and security measures taken for all guests and will expedite entry into the venue.

All attendees are required to abide by the regulation and are subject to bag size and type limits. The university reserves the right to impose the regulation at its discretion.

Attendees should comply with the following bag requirements and/or options:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC Bags must not exceed 12x 12 x 6
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar) is permitted
  • Small clutch bags, 4.5 x 6.5 or smaller are permitted
  • Diaper bags are subject to search and must be accompanied by a child (up to 36 months)

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

  • Purses larger than a clutch bag
  • Coolers
  • Briefcases
  • Backpacks/Cinch bags/Fanny packs
  • Luggage
  • Computer bags/Camera bags or any bag larger than the permissible size
  • Air horns, bull horns, cow bells, tambourines and/or any other disruptive nosie makers

Exceptions may be granted for medically-necessary items, event personnel and credentialed media. Entry may be denied for individuals who fail to comply or allow inspections. The university reserves the right to deny entry of any item deemed inappropriate.

For additional questions about the permissibility of items or other needs, contact the Office of Special Events at 336-256-0863.

Our guests are our most prized partners and ensuring their safety is a top priority. N.C. A&T regularly evaluates safety and security concerns and will make changes as necessary to protect its community and guests.

The Clear Bag Regulation supports the Department of Homeland Security’s “See Something, Say Something” campaign.

Guests carrying bags that do not meet clear bag regulation criteria will not be admitted into the venue. They may return their bag or item to their vehicle.

Clear bags are easier and faster to search, greatly reducing individual bag searches and guest wait times. Shorter lines mean fewer delays, while ensuring guest safety.

Guests carrying medically-necessary items into the venue will be subject to screening and/or bag inspection. For additional information, please contact the Office of Special Events at: 336-256-0863

One large, clear bag – either a one-gallon freezer style bag, or a 12 x 12 x 6 clear bag – plus a small clutch. The larger clear bag must be a standard 12 x 12 x 6 made of clear PVC vinyl and easily searched. The one-gallon freezer bag is readily available, inexpensive and easily searched. The small clutch, 4.5 x 6.5, allows privacy for small personal items and is also easily searched.
