Office of Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance

Strengthening Accountability, Managing Risk, and Supporting Compliance

The Office of Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance (ERMC) supports North Carolina A&T State University’s academic mission and strategic priorities by helping the university proactively identify, assess, manage, and mitigate risks that could affect its mission, operations, and reputation. Working collaboratively with university leaders, campus partners, and external stakeholders, the office promotes risk awareness, policy alignment, compliance, and strategic decision-making across the institution.

ERM is not simply a checklist or a single department function. It is the culture, capabilities, and practices integrated with strategy-setting and performance that help the university identify, assess, prioritize, and manage risks that may affect institutional objectives. As a continuous process applied across the university, ERM supports decision-making, strengthens compliance efforts, and helps foster long-term resilience.

ERMC’s compliance function helps to foster a university-wide understanding of legal, regulatory, and policy expectations. This helps campus partners meet their responsibilities and sustain a culture of compliance through education, coordination, and support.

A strong enterprise risk management and compliance framework helps the university anticipate challenges, respond thoughtfully and strategically to changing circumstances, and support its mission with clarity. ERMC helps build that framework by encouraging proactive planning, coordinated action, and a campus-wide understanding of risk and responsibility.
