A man sits next to a child while reading aloud from a picture book to an unseen audience. The man gestures toward the open pages showing colorful illustrations. Behind them, a wall mural depicts a marching band musician, and a camera on a tripod records the session.

Farmer, teacher, father, mentor, public speaker: All of these labels apply to Kamal Bell. So do beekeeper, community builder and, now, published author. The two-time graduate of North Carolina A&T recently published a book about beekeeping for children that is generating buzz for himself and his farm. He came back to A&T this spring to read the book to N.C. A&T’s youngest students at the Child Development Lab.

A smiling student sits at a table in a sewing classroom beside a sewing machine. Behind him, a mannequin and a bulletin board display colorful fabric samples and patterns.

Deconstructing and reconstructing fashions comes naturally to Collin Semien, and his reconstructions have caught the attention of fellow students and social media. One of his wearable creations gained more than 34,000 views on TikTok.

A woman raises her right hand while taking an oath beside another woman during a formal ceremony. Both stand in front of seated attendees in a wood-paneled room.

Never lose your voice. That's what N.C. A&T alumna Jamilla Pinder, an agribusiness and food industry management program graduate, hopes for the younger generation as she fills the at-large Greensboro City Council seat left vacant by another Aggie, Yvonne Johnson.

A group of people pose together for a photo in front of a backdrop displaying the NC Cooperative Extension logo. The group includes men and women standing in two rows, smiling at the camera.

As a summer intern working at the Guilford County office of Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T, college student Camryn Ross found herself on the other end of education — teaching.

Welcome to the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences – a place that you helped make great!

We are unique! We are the largest agriculture, family and life sciences college of any HBCU, with 1,271 students. We also have 56 students enrolled in the Ph.D. program , which launched in 2022.

We are the only HBCU to still have a dairy , the only undergraduate landscape architecture program in North Carolina, the nation’s second highest producer of Black pre-veterinary students. We are home to a two-time Astronaut Scholar, a 2024 N.C. Teaching Fellow and 21 USDA 1890s Scholars . Our students have interned at Tiffany & Co., launched their own clothing brands and started their own farm-to-table operations. Many of them are now giving back to the next generations.

In August 2016, we changed our name from School to College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. But our mission remains unchanged: To give individuals from diverse backgrounds opportunities for excellence in the food, agricultural, family and environmental sciences.

This year, we celebrate the 135 th Anniversary of the Second Morrill Act , which created the 1890s land-grant universities. Since 1891, N.C. A&T and the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences has led the way in agricultural science, teaching and outreach.
