Prospective Students
The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences' dynamic academic environment includes the School of Nursing, the departments of Kinesiology, Psychology and Social Work & Sociology, and programs in Health Services Management and Speech Studies. It serves equally dynamic fields throughout the human health experience at a time when knowledge regarding our bodies and our minds is greater than ever in the history of humankind.
Psychology Major Requirements
Each student must complete a minimum of 120 semester hours of courses:
- 35 credit hours of General Education Courses (GED)
- 45 credit hours of required psychology courses
- 9 credit hours of required non-psychology courses
- 31 credit hours of free electives
- A student must average 15 credit hours per semester in order to graduate in four years.
- A GPA of 2.8 GPA or higher is required to major or transfer into the Hairston College psychology program.
- Students must make at least a "C" in all psychology classes to remain in good standing.
- Students must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher to graduate.
The minimum course load for a full-time undergraduate is 12 credit hours per semester.
The normal course load for a full-time undergraduate is 15 credit hours per semester.
The maximum course load for a full-time undergraduate is 18 credit hours per semester.
Psychology Minor Requirements
Students desiring to minor in psychology must complete PSYC 101 or PSYC 110 (3 hours) and 15 additional credit hours of psychology courses. Students completing the minor must earn a grade of "C" or better in all courses for the minor and must complete a minimum of 24 academic credits before declaring a minor.
