North Carolina A&T State University proudly holds the distinction of being the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to offer a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Technical Writing.
This forward-looking program is designed to equip students with the communication skills needed to succeed in today’s complex, information-driven world. The curriculum emphasizes clarity, precision, and audience awareness, preparing students to write and edit a wide variety of professional and technical documents.

Professional Writing
The Professional Writing concentration at North Carolina A&T equips students with versatile, career-ready skills in writing, research, and communication. Grounded in the liberal arts and enriched by real-world application, this program prepares students to write persuasively and strategically across professional, academic, and civic contexts.
Professional Writing, formerly referred to as Professional English or English Literature, is ideal for students who want to blend critical thinking with effective communication to influence policy, support organizations, or inform the public.
