It’s important to know your rights and responsibilities with regards to applying for and receiving financial aid at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Student Rights

  • The student has the right to privacy. All student records and information submitted to The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships with the student’s application for financial aid are confidential and subject to requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).   • The student has the right to know the correct procedures for applying for student financial aid, the cost of attendance and the types of financial assistance that is available, including information on all federal, state and institutional financial assistance programs.
  • The student has the right to know the deadlines for submitting applications for applicable financial aid programs and the processes required.
  • The student has the right to know how and when financial aid is disbursed.
  • The student has the right to have their eligibility of financial aid be determined in an equitable manner consistent with federal regulations and university policies.
  • The student has the right to be considered for those programs for which he/she qualifies as long as funding is available.
  • The student has the right to request a reduction or cancelation of your student loan(s). Student loans are a debt which requires repayment. Students should only borrow what they need.
  • The student has the right to know the interest rate of your student loan, the total amount to be repaid (or not to be repaid); repayment procedures, when repayment begins, and the length of the repayment period.

  • The student has the right to know the university’s withdrawal policy. https://www.ncat.edu/admissions/financial-aid/withdrawals-and-repayments.php
  • The student has the right to accept, reject or reduce any or all types of aid. If a student reduces or rejects any portion of financial aid, the action may not be able to be reversed as some funds are limited and are distributed on a first-come, first served basis.
  • The student has the right to know the names of the accrediting bodies of the University.

 

Student Responsibilities

  • It is the student’s responsibility to reapply for financial aid each year by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/
  • It is the student’s responsibility to use financial aid funds for educational purposes only. Namely, tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies and other living expenses.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to respond promptly to requests from The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to report changes in their student status, address & telephone numbers.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to keep copies of all documents and records submitted to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to know and comply with all policies and procedures of NC A&T State University.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to review and understand the conditions of their financial aid award.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to complete all requirements accurately, in a timely manner and by the appropriate deadlines.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to inform the Office of Student Financial Aid of any outside scholarships or additional resources received.
  • It is the student’s responsibility if he/she accepts a student loan to complete the Entrance Counseling session at https://studentaid.gov/ before their first loan disbursement.
  • It is the student’s responsibility if he/she accepts a student loan to electronically sign a Master Promissory Note at https://studentaid.gov/ before their first loan disbursement.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to provide correct information at all times. Reporting false information is a violation of the law and may be considered a criminal offense.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to regularly check their NCAT email account for information regarding their financial aid.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to ensure their permanent address and telephone number are accurate. This can be done by the student in Aggie Access Online. http://aggieaccess.ncat.edu
  • It is the student’s responsibility to know whether or not they are meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress in accordance with the university’s policy. https://www.ncat.edu/admissions/financial-aid/satisfactory-academic-progress.php
