 Dr. Veronica Sills

Dr. Veronica Sills serves as the associate vice chancellor and chief human resources officer for North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she provides executive and strategic leadership of 41 full-time human resources professionals and specialists serving over 2,500 faculty and professional staff and nearly 1,600 student employees.

As a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, Dr. Sills provides strategic human resources services through ten functional areas including recruitment, classification and compensation; employee relations, EEO/AA; benefits and operations; information systems management, HR project management, and learning and development.

During her tenure, Dr. Sills has grown A&T's human resources team by 43%, significantly boosting the team's productivity, service management, and collective expertise. This monumental team growth has equipped the human resources staff to effectively support the university’s rapidly growing organizational needs, drive strategic initiatives, and deliver exceptional service across the institution. Under Dr. Sills' leadership, the human resources team has also enhanced services and operations through the ongoing implementation of advanced technology, streamlined processes, and time-saving improvements. By focusing on building a future-ready digital infrastructure, the team has started to ensure that HR processes are more agile, responsive, and capable of supporting the organization's long-term strategic goals of transforming lives through innovative solutions to global challenges.

Dr. Sills is a double-certified HR professional and senior state-certified mediator for employment matters. She holds memberships in various civic and professional organizations, including the College & University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) where she serves as the North Carolina chapter president (2024-2025). She also holds membership in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and and Human Resource Management Association of Greensboro (HRMAG) where she has served as co-director of college relations supporting the engagement and scholarship of graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in HR or HR-related degree programs.

Dr. Sills has served in higher education for over 12 years with experience in student affairs, Title IX, and human resources administration. Before NC A&T, she served as the Talent Solutions Manager at UNC-Greensboro and previously served in student affairs at UNC-Wilmington and Elon University.

Dr. Sills holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a minor in women and gender studies from The College of New Jersey; a double master’s degree in criminal justice and public administration from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (Camden); and a master’s degree in higher education from Drexel University. She completed her doctoral studies in educational leadership and higher education administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She completed her doctoral internship at Maynooth University (Dublin, Ireland) in the Human Resources Office, where she supported the implementation of the university’s inaugural women’s professional mentorship program. Her research included developing outcomes for the institution’s equality strategy and implementation program which sought to increase diversity and inclusion of workforce talent within the Irish higher education system. In 2020, Dr. Sills received the Triad Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 award for recognition as one of the Triad’s exceptional leaders in business.
