Charnell Chasten Long, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Science Education in the Department of Educator Preparation and the lab manager for the College of Education STEAM lab. Long mentors three NC-LSAMP STEMunity scholars who study teaching and learning of science curricula in upper elementary school. In general, the Long Research Group uses qualitative methods to understand classroom teaching and instruction of science in K-5, historical methods to recover the history of science education at HBCUs, and mixed methods to understand the impact of the NC A&T SU’s College of Education STEAM Lab initiatives. The College of Education STEAM lab: 1) Provides professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers. 2) Supports the STEAM curriculum at the Aggie Academy. 3) Hosts hands-on learning experiences for K-12 students in the local community. Additionally, Long advises several student organizations on campus and remains active in campus life as an alum.
