Recommendations

For 2023 there were 14 complaints with 7 sustained complaints. Complaints decreased slightly in 2024 to 11 complaints, with 7 of those complaints also being sustained. An analysis of the complaints shows that most of the complaints were for 2023 and 2024 were for poor job performance, discourtesy and traffic violations. In addition to addressing sustained complaints in these areas through personnel actions, the NCA&T University Police Department also has begun to invest in more training for its personnel related to these topics and other areas of need. The Police Department is committed to ensuring that every officer has extensive training on traffic violations, emergency response, verbal de-escalation, personnel processes and progressive discipline, and legal requirements of the job. The NCA&T Police Department is also reviewing and updating its policies and procedures and will train all officers on any new policies and procedures. The NCA&T University Police Department is also working to ensure that every member of the agency is Crisis Intervention Team trained.
