Groups

Sometimes, students come to the Counseling Services with problems that may be more effectively addressed in a group counseling setting. Counseling Services' staff facilitate several groups each academic semester. We welcome suggestions for groups.

Active Minds is a peer advocacy group that seeks to bring awareness and remove the stigma of mental illness. Active Minds members participate in campus-wide events and national programs related to mental health awareness. For more questions about the organization visit Active Minds.

Our Anxiety Psycho-educational Group provides a safe, supportive environment where individuals can come together to share experiences and learn effective coping strategies for managing anxiety. Led by two licensed therapists, this group combines mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and peer support to help participants reduce anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and build resilience.

Our Interpersonal Relationships Group is a supportive space designed to help individuals explore and strengthen their connections with others. Through guided discussions and interactive activities, members can improve communication skills, learn to establish healthy boundaries, and build a healthy social network.

Our Black Women’s Support Group is a supportive and empowering space designed specifically for Black women to share their experiences, foster connection, and nurture personal growth. This group addresses unique challenges such as navigating cultural expectations, managing stress, and overcoming systemic barriers, while celebrating resilience and shared identity. Through open dialogue and therapeutic activities, members can explore topics like self-care, relationships, and empowerment in a safe and affirming environment.

Our Black Men’s Support Group is a safe and supportive space designed for Black men to explore their unique experiences, challenges, and aspirations. This group provides an opportunity to address issues such as mental health stigma, identity, relationships, and navigating societal pressures, all while fostering a sense of community and mutual understanding. Participants are encouraged to explore topics like identity, emotional well-being, and self-empowerment through open conversations and guided therapeutic exercises.

All Recovery Meetings are for everyone who supports recovery. These student-led meetings honor all pathways to recovery, acknowledging that each person's path is unique and reflects their personal strengths. Develop a community of individuals, as peer support is essential during this journey. Here, you will feel seen and heard in a way that allows you to feel comfortable with sharing your experiences. Join us, because recovery doesn't happen alone.
