Safe Zone at NC A&T

Safe Zone is a training program available to faculty, staff, and students who wish to demonstrate their responsiveness to the unique needs of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning, Queer, Intersex, and Ally members of the NCAT community on campus.

Trainings are offered periodically throughout the calendar year and are available free of charge.

How to Become Safe Zone Trained

Safe Zone training is offered as a two-part series. The purpose of Safe Zone I is to provide participants with a place to reflect on issues of discrimination, to learn a model of sexual orientation identity development, and psychosocial concerns often experienced by members of the GLBTQQI community.

Safe Zone II is designed for those who wish not only to address discrimination in their university unit, but also wish to visibly identify as an ally - a person on campus members of the GLBT community can feel safe approaching for emotional support. Upon completion of Safe Zone II and agreement to identify as an Ally, participants are presented a NCAT Safe Zone placard to display in their offices.
