Bio
As a rural sociologist, Dr. Li’s research focuses on the intersection of chronic health disparities, environmental health, aging, and technology-based healthcare. Her current research efforts involve interconnected endeavors in rural communities and health equity. One project in this direction is the “Intergenerational Impact of Historical Redlining on African Americans in the South. Combining archival research and geospatial analysis, the main question is how does the legacy of redlining influence chronic health disparities among African Americans today? Methodologically, she employs mixed-methods and qualitative interviews to trace the intergenerational health impacts of redlining. This includes examining access to quality housing, green space and healthcare facilities, exposure to environmental hazards, and the role of community resilience.
