Bio

Dr. Yuhan Jiang joined the Department of Built Environment as an Assistant Professor in August 2022. Dr. Jiang earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Marquette University and his M.S. and B.S. in Construction Management from Guangzhou University. He leads a multidisciplinary research team in the HUD Center of Excellence for Innovation in Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (www.CIAHSC.com). Yuhan’s research has contributed to Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Building Information Modeling integration in Construction Operations, Building and Infrastructural Facility Management. He won a Best Paper Award in the ASCE CRC Conference 2024 Track of Computer Applications, Information Modeling, and Simulation, the 2022 Best Paper Award from the ASCE Journal of Architectural Engineering, and received the Editor’s Choice in the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management in April 2022. He has been named the N.C. A&T and CoST 2024 Rookie Researcher of the Year, and the 2023 & 2024 Provost’s Faculty Fellows. Dr. Jiang has served as a faculty mentor for the 2023 & 2024 Sci-Tech Week Innovation Challenge competitions, where students won 1st and 3rd place, and the team has been accepted to the 2024 AAAS HBCU Making and Innovation Showcase.

Research Interests

Dr. Yuhan Jiang's current research focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) in architecture, engineering, construction, and operations (AECO), including robotics and remote sensing-based data collection, computer vision and machine learning-based data processing, as well as BIM, GIS, and AR/VR-based data visualization, to enable more efficient and effective construction operations, building inspection, and infrastructure management.
Additionally, Dr. Jiang has extensive experience in community redevelopment planning and complex systems simulation. His prior research investigated the formation mechanisms of urban villages and developed a system dynamics model to simulate different redevelopment strategies for sustainable urbanization.
