Institutional Effectiveness

Institutional Effectiveness at A&T is governed by the university's Institutional Effectiveness policy and is the responsibility of the Institutional Effectiveness Council (IEC), with administrative oversight from the Office of Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OSPIE)

The IEC includes Co-chairs, OSPIE advisors, and two subcommittees—Academic and Administrative. The Academic arm of the IEC includes Council members with specific responsibilities for the assessment of 1) academic programs, 2) general education program, and 3) distance education program. Responsibility for the effective administration of the Institutional Effectiveness policy rests with the Provost and Deans for the academic units and with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors for the administrative units. The ultimate oversight of the Institutional Effectiveness policy rests with the Chancellor.

All academic and administrative units develop and implement assessment plans that are consistent with the University’s strategic plan, its mission, and its annual strategic priorities. The IEC ensures implementation of all the milestones included in the process.

Charge to the IEC Steering Committee:

1. Provide oversight to the institutional assessment process for academic and administrative units and all milestones included in the process.
2. Implement an audit process for the institution to monitor effectiveness of academic programs and administrative units, and scorecards related to academic and administrative units.
3. Ensure integration of all SACSCOC standards, A&T Preeminence goals, specialized accreditation standards, and program review requirements.
4. Propose clear and cohesive action items to address gaps in compliance with above standards and goals, and monitor reports for progress.
5. Make specific recommendations twice a year for continuous improvement.
6. Evaluate the institutional assessment process on an annual basis and make recommendations to the Chancellor (administrative units) and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (academic programs).
7. Make recommendations based on assessment data to inform academic and administrative policymaking, practices, and budget decisions to the Chancellor (administrative units) and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (academic programs).
