graduate school exploration fair & panel discussioN
The Office of Career Services will host a virtual Graduate School panel kickoff Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The event will feature five to seven panelists from different graduate schools that offer an up-close and personal discussion about the graduate school process, successes and challenges, expectations, potential costs and more. The Office of Career Services will also offer a virtual graduate school exploration fair featuring more than 70 registered colleges and universities Wednesday, Nov. 10, from noon to 3 p.m. This event is for students who are seeking to enroll in a graduate program (master’s, Ph.D., medical school, law school, etc.) after graduation. The Office of Career Services uses Handshake, a job portal system to connect students to internships, jobs, career events and opportunities throughout the campus. Handshake allows students to upload career documents such as résumés, cover letters and university transcripts. Students can upload other materials required by employers and/or samples of work that relate to their career industries. Students also can build their online profiles with academic information and career interests.
Employers have access to Handshake and regularly post opportunities and events. They can also review student profiles on Handshake and contact students directly about positions and events.
Handshake can be accessed online or through its app available on Apple and Android devices. All services for Handshake are FREE, and the Office of Career Services encourages you to get connected!

résumé and cover letter guidelines
When preparing to pitch yourself to recruiters, it is important to consider the attributes they look for in ideal candidates. Problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities are not only some of the most desired attributes, but they are as important as a high GPA. Other attributes that are recommended to include on your résumé are written communication skills, leadership abilities, and a strong work ethic. Prior work (internship, co-op, volunteer) experience is also something many recruiters search for when looking through résumés and cover letters.
The résumé is a concise, well-developed document that showcases an individual’s experiences, skills, education, and achievements. It is most commonly used to secure an employment interview. The résumé may also be used when applying for scholarships, graduate or professional school, or memberships into professional organizations.

Cover letters are introductions to your skills and abilities that are related to the position that interests you. Cover letters should speak to your skills and abilities in a narrative form; it is not a repeat of the statements from the résumé. Cover letters do get read by the search committee or hiring manager, so you want the document to stand out in a good way.

employer spotlight: altria group inc.
Altria is a Fortune 200 company and a key leader in the tobacco industry. Altria Group Inc. holds diversified positions across tobacco, alcohol and cannabis. Through their wholly-owned subsidiaries and strategic investments in other companies, they seek to provide category-leading choices to adult consumers, while returning maximum value to shareholders through dividends and growth. 
Some of their brands include Marlboro, Copenhagen, Skoal, and Black & Mild, to name a few. Altria is recruiting students to participate in their internship programs and has full-time opportunities as well. Internship opportunities are available for brand, sales/marketing, manufacturing/engineering, analytical chemistry, and more! Altria has had many A&T students as interns and hired them for full-time positions in their company.
Senior biology pre-med student Anjali Kumari interned at Altria this past summer as their first regulatory sciences intern. The position was created for Kumari and she continues to work with Altria in a co-op for product development. “Overall, I love the entire team and the connections between the different departments,” Kumari said. Altria has had many A&T students as interns and hired them for full-time positions in their company.
