Digital Accessibility Resources Hub

Digital Accessibility at North Carolina A&T State University

At North Carolina A&T State University, digital accessibility is a fundamental part of our commitment to inclusivity. Ensuring that all documents, communications, and digital content are accessible allows everyone—regardless of ability—to fully engage with university resources and services. It is our responsibility to ensure that all digital materials comply with accessibility standards and guidelines. By prioritizing digital accessibility, we can ensure that North Carolina A&T State University remains a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members of our community.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: By April 24, 2026, all government websites, third-party services, and digital course content must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards. This requirement ensures equitable access for all users, including those with disabilities. Faculty should review and update their course materials to comply before the deadline.

Digital Accessibility Resources Hub

Our Digital Accessibility Resources Hub serves as a dedicated space for learning and skill development. This site provides essential resources, including training materials and guidance, to help individuals navigate WCAG 2.1 requirements and implement best practices in their daily work. Whether designing course materials, developing web content, or preparing digital communications, having the right knowledge and tools ensures that accessibility is integrated from the start rather than addressed as an afterthought. By investing in accessibility education, we not only meet legal and institutional requirements but also foster an inclusive learning environment where all members of our university community can engage, contribute, and succeed.

Accessibility Guidelines and Standards

To maintain compliance and best practices, we follow key accessibility standards, including:

  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)The ADA mandates that federally funded institutions ensure equal access to digital content and technology, preventing discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
  • Section 508 of the Rehabilitation ActSection 508 requires that all electronic and information technology used by federally funded institutions be accessible to people with disabilities, ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies.
  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1WCAG 2.1 sets the global standard for web accessibility, ensuring that digital content is perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for all users, including those with disabilities.

Resources

We provide a variety of materials and training options to support accessibility efforts. Our goal is to ensure that faculty and staff have information and guidance to support students with disabilities by ensuring that course materials meet accessibility standards.
