About Us

The University Archives procures, organizes, collects, describes, maintains and preserves records of historical and administrative value to the university and that have significantly impacted upon the African American experience in the Piedmont Triad region.

Hours

Located in Room 201, second floor of the library, the archives reading room is currently open by appointment only during Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8am to 5pm.

Physical Collections

We house a wealth of information, the majority being institutional records dating back to the 1890's, including: annual reports, meeting minutes, photographs, class schedules, news bulletins, alumni publications, research bulletins, student newspapers, event programs, budget materials, yearbooks, departmental brochures and newsletters, self-studies, and faculty and staff directories, handbooks, and manuscripts.

Materials are also collected relating to outstanding alumni such as Jesse Jackson, Joe Dudley, and Ronald McNair. Other collections include the papers and documents of John Wray, Gerald Marteena, F.A. Williams, R.E. Jones, B.W. Barnes, George Simkins, Margaret Tynes, Hal Seiber, Armand Richardson and the Virgil Stroud scrapbooks.
