Criteria and Characteristics of a Successful Application
Applications for enrollment will not consider the ACT/SAT in entry into the Honors College; however, applicants will be reviewed holistically to include a completed application, essays, transcript evaluation, extracurricular involvement, letters of recommendation, and interview (if applicable). Applicants should consider the following characteristics when choosing to apply:
- Applicants are required to have a minimum (weighted) cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
- A successful applicant typically will have earned mostly "A"s in core courses and will have chosen a challenging and/or meaningful course of study as allowed by their high school's curriculum.
- Most enrolled first-year Honors students ranked in the top percentage of their high school graduating class.
- An applicant's responses to the essay prompts and activities lists will play an important role in the selection.
- Letters of recommendation that can highlight distinctive character, profound leadership, or impactful service.
- Interest in challenging course work, undergraduate research, or international experiences.

Apply as an Incoming First-Year Student
Are you a current high school student pursuing first-year admission at North Carolina A&T State University? If so, applicants should first apply to N.C. A&T and then submit the First-Year Honors application through the Honors College Portal. Note: Applicants are not required to be admitted to apply to the Honors College, BUT must have at least applied to the university.
Application Deadlines
- Applications for Fall 2025 will open for submission on August 15, 2024 through the Honors College Portal.
- Priority Application Deadline: 11:59pm EST on November 15, 2024. Students who apply by the priority date will be considered for the Honors College and our full-ride scholarship programs.
- Final Application Deadline: 11:59pm EST on December 15, 2024. Students who apply after November 15, 2024 but by the final application deadline will be considered for the Honors College only. Other scholarship opportunities may be available through Academic Colleges or the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
Apply as a Transfer or Current N.C. A&T Student
Are you an incoming transfer student or currently enrolled at North Carolina A&T State University? If so, applicants should submit the Current-Transfer Honors application through the Honors College Portal. Transfer students should apply to N.C. A&T prior to submitting an application to the Honors College.
Application Deadlines
- Applications for the Fall 2025 semester, will open for submission on January 15, 2025 and the deadline to apply is 11:59pm EST on March 15, 2025. Decisions will be sent out in late April 2025.
