Faculty Scholars Program
The N.C. A&T ADVANCE IT Faculty Scholars Program is designed to connect a cohort of STEM/SBS women faculty, who will participate in activities designed to: (a) increase excellence in teaching, research and engagement, (b) boost scholarly productivity, and (c) enhance women’s competitiveness for leadership roles in the academy.
Between 2015 – 2017, after a rigorous application review process, 27 scholars were selected; nine (9) scholars-cohort 1 (2015-2016), six (6) scholars-cohort 2 (2017) and twelve (12) scholars-cohort 3 (2018).
Faculty Scholars engage in one-year of targeted professional development and, research/writing skill development workshops. They also receive oral presentation coaching, and complete an Individual Development Plan. Through these activities, scholars develop a network of STEM & SBS women faculty who foster peer-to-peer mentoring, assist with navigating the tenure and promotion process and share work/life balance strategies. In addition, Faculty Scholars have an opportunity to apply for a summer research mini-grant or a one-course release during their cohort year. Both provide the scholars with the resources and/or time to engage in research and scholarly activities.
As a result, scholars are better positioned to compose either a fundable federal grant proposal and/or a manuscript for publication. To build capacity and to increase programmatic impact, some workshops are open to all STEM/SBS women faculty (at all ranks) as well as to all faculty regardless of gender, rank, or discipline. When possible, workshops are developed and facilitated collaboratively with representatives from the Division of Research and Economic Development, the Center for Organizational Excellence (CLOE), Library Services and the Writing Center.
