Current Guidance

Updated May 13, 2022

MASKS/FACE COVERINGS

Masks are optional in all indoor settings on campus including the classroom except for the Health Care Facilities and the Aggie Shuttle. The university will continue to provide masks to anyone who requests them. KN95 masks continue to be the recommended mask for good protection against COVID-19. Masks are strongly recommended for those who have chronic health conditions or compromised immune systems.

  • Employees, masks can be obtained from your building representative.
  • Students may obtain masks from the information desk in the Student Center or through your residence hall director.

TESTING

Covid-19 testing is available through the Alvin V. Blount Jr. Student Health Center, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Testing will be focused on anyone who is having symptoms of Covid-19 or has been exposed to COVID-19.  Additionally, as recommended by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the university will continue to recommend testing focused on areas of identified clusters. The university is also continuing wastewater surveillance testing efforts to assist in early detection of COVID-19 spikes on campus.

Testing of Residential Students

Entry testing will be required for all students living in traditional residence halls and suites on campus. A negative PCR test within 3 days or a Rapid antigen test within 48 hours will be accepted. The A.V. Blount Student Health Center will be available for testing. However, one may opt to test within the community and bring proof of a negative test to check-in and receive access to your residential space. Home rapid antigen tests will not be accepted. If you have been positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, please contact the A.V. Blount Student Health Center at health@ncat.edu for clearance.

Wastewater Surveillance Testing

N.C. A&T will continue to conduct wastewater surveillance testing through the department of research to assist the A.V. Blount Jr. Student Health Center with identifying high concentration levels of COVID-19 on campus. Testing Positive for COVID-19

If you test positive for COVID-19 and you reside on-campus, we ask that you plan to return home for your 5-day isolation.  However, if a student is unable to return home, there will be limited space on-campus for isolation where Care Coordinators will perform wellness checks and ensure dining service is delivered. A 10-day isolation is required after illness is identified before you may return to your original housing assignment unless there is further testing. To exit isolation in the 5-to-10-day interval after symptoms start or after the date of your positive test, a negative rapid antigen test is required from the SHC or your provider of choice at home. After returning, wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others.

After completing a 5-day isolation, you may return to your original housing assignment. Wear a well-fitting mask for an additional 5 days while around others.

What To Do If...

... YOU TEST POSITIVE

  • Contact the Student Health Center, at health@ncat.edu.
  • Isolate for 5 days at home or in the designated isolation space if a resident
in university housing if you cannot return home.
  • If no symptoms, or symptoms resolve after 5 days, you can leave isolation if your rapid antigen test is negative.
  • If your rapid antigen test is positive, continue isolation and retest at day 7.
  • If still positive at day 7, continue isolation until day 10 and then end isolation without further testing.
  • Wear a well-fitting mask (KN95 preferred) around others for 10 days, regardless of test results.
  • If you were severely ill with COVID-19, consult your healthcare provider about when to end isolation.
  • If not immunized, seek vaccination after isolation completed.

... YOU ARE EXPOSED AND UNVACCINATED OR NOT VACCINATED IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS

  • Get tested immediately after a known contact.
  • Watch for symptoms until 10 days after your exposure. If you develop symptoms get tested again.

... YOU ARE EXPOSED AND VACCINATED INCLUDING BOOSTER OR HAVE HAD COVID IN THE PAST 90 DAYS

  • No need to quarantine at home after exposure.
  • Wear a well-fitting mask around others at all times for 5 days.
  • Test 5 days after exposure with PCR (If vaccinated) or rapid antigen (if SARS-CoV-2 positive in the past 90 days). Test immediately if you develop symptoms.
  • If no symptoms and a negative test after 5 days, you may continue full activity but should mask around others for 5 more days.
  • During the 10-day period, avoid travel and avoid being around people who are at high risk for severe illness.

VACCINATIONS

The most important way to stop viral spreading with increasing cases and serious illnesses is for everyone to get vaccinated (and boosted) as soon as possible. The Student Health Service will continue to offer vaccines on campus to any faculty, staff, or students. Vaccines are offered Monday, Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. (except 1 p.m.-2 p.m.), and Tuesdays, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. No appointment necessary.

MEETINGS AND EVENTS

Virtual meeting will continue to be an option. However, in-person meetings are also an option. We encourage you to choose the option that provides the most efficiency for meeting your needs. Meeting and event capacity limits are now at 100%. COVID-19 testing, and vaccine verification is no longer required. As always, we encourage you to protect yourself and make the best decisions regarding your individual health.
