Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering
Architectural engineers specialize in the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. They are trained to develop designs for structural systems, heating and air conditioning systems, lighting and electrical systems, and plumbing and fire protection systems. Architectural engineers work with other engineers and architects to design and construct buildings and the systems within buildings. N.C. A&T’s Architectural Engineering Program has a long and rich history that can trace its origins back to the beginning of the university in 1891. Based on historical records, the first degrees were awarded in 1921 and it was established as a department in 1941. The program was accredited in 1969 by the Engineering Council for Professional Development (ECPD), which is now referred to as the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Our program has consistently maintained ABET accreditation and completed the last ABET general review in October 2019.

Accreditation
The program of study leading to the B.S. in Architectural Engineering (BSAE) is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (http://www.abet.org).
ABET Program Educational Objectives
The objectives of the BSAE program are to produce:
- graduates employed as architectural engineers or in associated professions related to Architectural Engineering and will demonstrate the ability to work productively in the main areas of Architectural Engineering.
- graduates recognized for their interdisciplinary perspective to problem-solving and for their teamwork and leadership skills.
- graduates who are active in a professional society and involved in continuing education making progress towards professional registration.
- graduates who contribute to society, the diversity of their company, and their profession.
ABET Student Outcomes
The student outcomes, measured in terms of the knowledge and skills the graduates of the BSAE program are expected to demonstrate at graduation:
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;
- an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;
- an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
- an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts;
- an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives;
- an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions; and
- an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
