Nutrition and Chronic Disease Prevention
Low-income and minority communities are disproportionally affected by chronic diseases. Giving these communities knowledge about good nutrition and healthy eating habits is one way to combat this problem. Extension programs in nutrition and chronic disease prevention focus on increasing knowledge, developing skills, modifying behaviors, and making lifestyle changes that lead to healthier individuals, families, and communities. Our work aims to decrease the rates of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and hypertension among people in these communities so they can lead healthier and more productive lives. Programs are designed to target both adults and youth.
