Family and General Information
School Hours
The CDL operates from late August to early June. Our hours of operations are 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Meals and Snacks
We provide nutritious meals and snacks which adhere to federal guidelines for appropriate food components. Children receive morning and afternoon snacks and a midday lunch each day. Our meals are catered by Family Ventures dba Taste of the Triad. Please see this sample menu for an idea of what your child’s meals will be.
Food Allergies
Families are expected to provide the facility with allergies of their child upon initial enrollment. The application form includes a section for providing this information. We maintain this information in the teacher’s classroom and the kitchen area. A physician’s signed allergy action plan is required at the time of enrollment to support the proper response to your child’s individual allergy.
Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)
Families are encouraged to actively participate in the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO meetings are led by a parent PTO President or Co-Presidents and are held on the second Tuesday of September, November, January, March, and May at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom
Required Supplies
Families of children enrolled in the Child Development Laboratory are required to provide some basic supplies for the appropriate care of their children’s needs.
Holidays/Closings
The CDL is closed during these public holidays, and breaks: Memorial Day; Labor Day; New Year’s Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas; Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Good Friday. The CDL also closes for a winter break during December-January, coinciding with the holidays, and a spring break during April.
Inclement Weather
The Child Development Laboratory (CDL) will follow the Guilford County Schools inclement weather closings and delays as much as possible. If the University closes due to inclement weather, the CDL will close as well.
The decision to close or delay opening will be announced to the media no later than 6 a.m. The announcement will appear as follows: “Child Development Lab A&T.” The announcement will be posted on WFMY News 2 in the category of “Day Cares” under closings and delays, in alphabetical order.
If the CDL opens at the normal time, an announcement will not be made. Therefore, no announcement in the media indicates that the CDL will operate on a normal schedule.
If inclement weather occurs after a normal day has begun, a decision regarding early release will be made as quickly as possible and parents will be contacted immediately.
Please contact the Child Development Laboratory if you have any questions.
