Information for Graduates

  • Apply for Graduation: Available via Aggie Access - Effective March 2023, all applicants must sign a Code of Conduct agreement in order to complete a graduation application. Once the agreement is signed, the Code of Conduct hold will be removed and the application can be completed.
  • Graduation Application Deadlines 
    Fall 2024 graduation application opened on April 1, 2024 and closed on April 22, 2024. The application reopened on May 1, 2024 and closed on September 9, 2024.

Decorations on graduation caps (mortar boards) are a symbol of pride and accomplishment. The decorations represent personalized statements about accomplishments that can be presented in the form of a quote, an image, a symbol, a flag or other things. To ensure that commencement exercises remain dignified celebrations of achievement of all students, the following rules must be followed when decorating caps for graduation:

  • Decorations should not interfere with attaching the tassel to the cap.
  • Graduation caps must not have any advertisements, symbols, words or slogans conveying messages inappropriate at a dignified commencement ceremony.
  • Caps must not threaten the safety of others or use any hate speech of any kind.
  • Caps must be consistent with the code of conduct for commencement.
  • Obscene, profane or vulgar language is expressly prohibited.
  • Decorations are prohibited on the academic gown and hood.

  • RSVP: All applicants must complete MarchingOrders. Check your student email for the link to register from graduation@ncat.edu. The portal will open by October 21, 2024 and closes on November 15, 2024.

    - Check the spelling of your name.
    - Record your name for correct pronunciation.
    - Check the college/department, ceremony date, time and location are correct.
    - RSVP “Yes” or “No” for attending the ceremony.

  • Name Card Pick Up/ Honor cords: To participate in commencement you must have a name card. Honor cords/stoles are also distributed at this time. Bring a valid id for pick up.

*Only the graduating student is allowed to pick up the name card and honor cords. Please plan ahead to pick up materials during these dates.

Graduating with Honors  

Undergraduate Students Only 

All course hours attempted and quality points earned, including repeated courses and excluding W (withdrawal grades), are included in the adjusted grade point average computation for honors. For example, if a course was repeated, both grades are used in the adjusted grade point average computation. Undergraduate candidates who have completed all requirements for their degree, have at least a 3.25 GPA (including repeated courses) and who have earned a minimum of 48 semester hours of resident credit at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University receive the following honors:   

Cum Laude - cumulative adjusted grade point average of a 3.25 to 3.49 
Magna Cum Laude - cumulative adjusted grade point average of a 3.50 to 3.74 
Summa Cum Laude - cumulative adjusted grade point average of a 3.75 to 4.00 

Apply For Your Degree

If you are planning to participate in the Spring 2024 commencement, you must complete a Graduation Application through Aggie Access. The deadline to complete an application was January 22, 2024. This process is what identifies you as a degree candidate and your academic department to clear you for graduation through the Office of the Registrar. If you do not meet the deadline, you will not be able to participate in the commencement ceremony. 

How to Apply for Graduation in Aggie Access

Undergraduate Students 

An undergraduate candidate for a degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University must satisfy the following minimum requirements: 

  1. Choose a specific curriculum leading to a degree in one of the schools/colleges and complete the requirements of this curriculum;
  2. Earn a minimum of 120 semester hours excluding deficiency courses and remedial work for the Bachelor's degree; 
  3. Complete all of the general education requirements of the University for the Bachelor’s degree. Please see General Education Requirements of the University for a complete listing of the general education requirements;  
  4. Earn a final cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. 
  5. Earn a final grade point average of 2.0 or higher for all courses in the major field of study.  
  6. Earn at least 30 of the last 45 credit hours for the degree from A&T courses. Exceptions may be made upon the recommendation of the chairperson of the student’s major department with the approval of the school/college dean. Transfer students must complete a minimum of 25% of the required degree coursework at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to graduate from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with that degree.  
  7. Clear all academic conditions by the end of the semester preceding graduation; 
  8. Pay all University bills and fees; 
  9. Submit an application for graduation with the Office of the Registrar prior to the established deadline, as published in the Academic Calendar

    • Summer Graduation - by deadline posted in the summer semester Academic Calendar 
    • Fall Graduation - by deadline posted in the fall semester Academic Calendar 

Graduate Students 

A candidate for a Masters’ or PhD degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University must satisfy the following minimum requirements: 

  1. Choose a specific curriculum leading to a degree in one of the schools/colleges and complete the requirements of this curriculum; 
  2. Master’s and PhD complete the minimum number of credit hours as outlined in the Graduate Catalog for your catalog term you are graduating from. 
  3. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA including hours passed or failed; 
  4. Have an approved plan of study on file at The Graduate College;
  5. Clear all academic conditions by the end of the semester preceding graduation;
  6. Pay all University bills and fees;
  7. File an application for graduation with The Graduate College prior to the established deadline, as published in the Academic Calendar.
  • Spring Graduation - by deadline posted in the spring semester Academic Calendar 
  • Summer Graduation - by deadline posted in the summer semester Academic Calendar
  • Fall Graduation – by deadline posted in the fall semester Academic Calendar

Master’s and Doctoral candidates must maintain a 3.0 minimum GPA and do not receive honors at the time of graduation. 

Diplomas & Awards

The Office of the Registrar has sixty (60) days from the commencement to award your degree. You can confirm your award status by checking your unofficial transcript in Aggie Access. If you do not meet the degree requirements, you should contact your academic department for advisement on how you can satisfy any missing requirements. Degrees will be mailed within four to six weeks after commencement. 

Withholding a Diploma 

Your diploma will be withheld if any of the following issues have not been resolved: 

  • You have not fulfilled all degree requirements. 
  • You owe a debt to the University bookstore. 
  • You have a past due balance. 
  • You did not honor the Graduation Code of Conduct.
