LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate Program

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University has been awarded a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) grant through the National Science Foundation (NSF). We are currently seeking applications to our Bridge to the Doctorate Program from LSAMP students who are applying to STEM Ph.D. programs at N.C. A&T for the Fall 2023 semester. Please carefully read the eligibility requirements below.

Funding for Bridge to the Doctorate Students:

The LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate Program at N.C. A&T will support 12 Ph.D. students in their first two years of study (or M.S. students who intend to move on to the Ph.D. program).  Each participant will receive a support package that covers tuition and includes a stipend of $32,000 as well as up to $12,000 towards educational expenses, per year, for two years. Participants will also receive assistance to secure funding for subsequent years in the Ph.D. program.     

Eligibility Requirements for the BD Program:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident 
  • Must have been an LSAMP student as an undergraduate (supported by a Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program at your undergraduate institution). LSAMP participation will be confirmed with the B.S. degree-granting institution. Prior LSAMP participation is REQUIRED for this funding opportunity.
  • Must be applying to an eligible STEM Ph.D. program at N.C. A&T (see list below) or an M.S. program in one of the same fields (with the intention of continuing on to the Ph.D. program), for Fall 2023.
  • Must NOT already possess a separate Master's degree in the field of study. Our BD program is intended to support LSAMP students as they proceed from undergraduate studies towards a Ph.D. program.

Eligible STEM Ph.D. Programs at N.C. A&T:  

  • Applied Science and Technology (Eight Concentrations Available: i. Applied Chemistry; ii. Applied Physics; iii. Atmospheric, Environmental and Energy Science; iv. Bioscience; v. Data Science and Analytics; vi. Information Technology; vii. STEM Education; and viii. Technology Management)
  • Computational Data Science and Engineering  
  • Computer Science  
  • Electrical Engineering  
  • Industrial and Systems Engineering  
  • Mechanical Engineering  
  • Nanoengineering
          

Bridge to the Doctorate Application Process: 

Bridge to the Doctorate applicants must complete two steps in order to be considered:

1) Submit a Fall 2023 Graduate Admissions Application for an eligible STEM Ph.D. program

2) Submit a Bridge to the Doctorate Program Application. The BD application form requires the following items in PDF format: 

  • Resume/CV 
  • Personal Statement (up to 3 pages), focused on relevant academic background, research interests/plans, and future goals 
  • Unofficial copy of transcript 
  • One letter of recommendation (academic recommender strongly preferred)
