Joint Field Education Experience
Since 1972, the social work programs at North Carolina A&T State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro have participated in the joint field instruction program. Students from both schools are placed in human service agencies together and faculties from both schools serve as faculty liaison representatives and instructors for the seminar of the Joint Field Education Program.
Admission to Field Education
All social work majors who have reached the status of junior, must, during a designated period in January (as outlined in the annual calendar), prepare for their field practicum that takes place both fall and spring semesters of their senior year. The process includes attending an orientation, participating in an agency fair, completing the Field Application Packet, shadowing a current intern, interviewing with the field director, receiving a tentative placement assignment, interviewing in the practicum site and being accepted in the internship for the following year.
Requirements for admission to field education state that a candidate must have:
1. Be a junior level social work major who has been officially accepted into the program
2. Have completed, prior to making application, a minimum of 75 semester credits that include all prerequisites for Field Instruction
3. Achieve and maintain a 2.6 or better GPA
4. Apply during spring semester at a designated time period for fall placement
5. Attend the field orientation meeting held in the spring
6. Complete the “Application for Field Instruction” packet including all required information
7. Attend agency fair during spring semester
8. Make appointment for and attend an individual/group interview with field director or designated faculty member
9. Receive assignment of placement interview by field director
10. Upon receipt of assignment, contact potential field instructor for appointment (initial interview) and meet that appointment
11. Return completed “Field Placement Assignment” form to the director of field instruction by the first week in May
12. Comply with any additional university academic requirements
